Express Yourself

One of the wonderful things about being human is the immeasurable number of emotions that we can experience on a daily basis, not to mention a lifetime.  We feel, therefore we are.  Emotions are normal, natural and a large part of our life.  They can give us direction. If we’re jealous, we usually want something that we don’t currently have.  If we’re happy, we should probably continue to do what we’re doing. But some of us have a hard time expressing our emotions, and that may create all kinds of problems.

There should be no shame in expressing emotion.  Though there are certainly inappropriate ways to express yourself, such as violence towards others. Letting out how you feel is critical to your overall wellbeing and health.  Holding in anger, sadness, jealousy, even happiness can actually have an effect on your physical and mental wellbeing.  Think of yourself as a pressure cooker; if you keep all that emotion in and never let it out, you may emotionally explode.  But some of us were never taught how to express ourselves.  Or we might have been taught that we should never talk about our feelings.  Quite often, men are taught that the only emotion they can show is anger.  Women learn that we should never show anger.  Neither of these scenarios is healthy.  Showing and talking about how you feel keeps your natural energy flowing and that’s healthy.
